Fall 2023 Quarterly Museum Update

Hilton Head Island, SC – The Coastal Discovery Museum is thrilled to unveil an array of exciting and educational offerings for its fall schedule, which runs through November 30th. With over 25 weekly creative and enlightening programs, the museum continues to be a hub of inspiration and exploration for all ages.

The fall program lineup promises an engaging mix of activities, including art workshops, historical lectures, nature tours, and interactive experiences that foster a deeper understanding of the Lowcountry's unique heritage and environment. Featured Event: Native Plant Sale
One highlight of the fall season is the perennially popular Native Plant Sale. Taking place at the Coastal Discovery Museum twice per year (Spring and Fall), this event celebrates the beauty and importance of native plants. Discover over 100 varieties of native species for your own garden while supporting local conservation efforts on September 23, from 10am-1pm. $9 for 1-gallon plants and $16 for 3-gallon. Welcoming New Team Members The museum is proud to introduce its newest team members who have joined this summer:

  • Katie Seeber - Diverse Narratives Educator: Katie, a community archaeologist, is working to preserve the museum's pieces and enhance its education programs.
  • Tendaji Bailey - Gullah Geechee Educator: Tendaji brings his expertise in Gullah Geechee culture to expand the museum's educational offerings.
  • Amelia Owens - Marketing Intern: Amelia, a local and recent graduate of USCB, uses her skills to promote the museum through various marketing channels.
  • Tori Lasik - Museum Technician: Tori's education and background in visual arts makes her a valuable addition to the museum's collections and exhibitions.

Gallery Exhibition
The museum's gallery showcases an inspiring array of exhibitions throughout the year. From thought-provoking art installations to immersive historical displays, these exhibitions provide visitors with an enriching visual experience. We are hosting the opening reception for the next exhibit, “Intricate Oceans: Coral and Contemporary Art,” on September 23 from 5-7pm at 70 Honey Horn Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC, 29926. Hay Barn Construction and Future Santa Elena Exhibit
Exciting developments are underway at the Coastal Discovery Museum, with the construction of a new hay barn that will house the future Santa Elena exhibit. This exhibit promises to offer an insightful exploration into the history and culture of the region. The barn will also house the Museum’s archival items. From art to newspapers, the Hay Barn will be the new home to the many unique items that the Museum owns. Upcoming Community Event
As part of its commitment to the local community, the Coastal Discovery Museum is delighted to announce an exciting upcoming community collaboration event:

  • Chili Cook Off & Jeep Island - On October 7th, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM, the Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head will host the 37th Annual Chili Cook Off. Over 25 local vendors will compete for the title of Hilton Head Island's Best Chili. This mouthwatering event will coincide with the popular Jeep Island gathering. Learn more HERE.

Holiday Sale
As the holiday season approaches, the Coastal Discovery Museum is a go-to destination for unique gifts. With the Museum Store Holiday Sales happening on November 21st from 10am-1pm, visitors can explore a wide range of locally crafted goods, providing the perfect opportunity to find that special something for loved ones.
