The Coastal Discovery Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate, is pleased to announce Annmarie Reiley-Kay as its new Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer.

Reiley-Kay brings more than 15 years of experience in the museum field, having served as an archivist, curator, exhibitions director, educator, and senior administrator. In her new role, she will oversee day-to-day operations and contribute to the museum’s strategic plan for growth, focusing on programming, staff development and special projects, including the upcoming Santa Elena exhibition set for late 2025.

“We are delighted to welcome Annmarie to the Coastal Discovery Museum,” said Director Rex Garniewicz. “Her background in museum operations and her collaborative approach will support our mission as we continue to expand and grow.”

Most recently, Reiley-Kay served as Director of the Virginia Beach History Museums, where she managed multiple historic sites and led a restoration project to modernize visitor experiences with interactive exhibits and augmented reality.

“I’m honored to join the Coastal Discovery Museum," said Reiley-Kay. "I look forward to sharing my passion for the rich Lowcountry history, natural beauty, art, and culture and working with the talented team to share the region’s many stories with our visitors."

Previously, Reiley-Kay was the inaugural Director of Exhibits and Programs at the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage, in Ridgeland, SC, where she helped shape the institution from the ground up, designing six exhibits showcasing the region’s rich heritage. From 2018-2020, she served as Executive Director of the Historic Latta Plantation, in Huntersville, NC.

Reiley-Kay earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Southern Wesleyan University, in SC, and a master's degree in museum studies from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. She resides in Bluffton, SC, with her husband Brian Kay.
