In the very heart of the Discovery House you'll find the Kids Zone packed with interactive Lowcountry treasures, info, artifacts, and inhabitants. Visitors of all ages and stages can explore together and learn about cultural and natural history disguised as fun and fascination!
Dress up in costumes from Colonial Days while playing the games of the era. Put puzzles together, create your own puppet show, or enjoy a book from the library of children’s books, or search through Native American pottery, replicas of artifacts, bones from loggerhead sea turtles, and a variety of shells from Hilton Head beaches.

"MYRTLE"
Say hello to our little lowcountry friends! Horseshoe Crabs and our Diamondback Terrapin “Myrtle” are your live hosts in the zone while you learn about their surroundings from a full-room mural familiarizing guests with the salt marsh, beach, and maritime forest habitats. Mounted local bird specimens and a loggerhead sea turtle nest “cut away” also put you within arm’s reach of what you might encounter while exploring nature throughout the South Carolina islands and shores.

TO THE BIRD NEST CAM
Get a front-row seat for our feathery friends nesting season! During the spring season a “bird nest cam” is placed in one of our blue bird boxes behind the Museum and visitors are able to watch as eggs are laid, incubated, and hatched. Watch the young feed and then fly from the nest.
