BE IN THE KNOW

Learning Through Experience

For over 35 years, the Coastal Discovery Museum has engaged and inspired students through hands-on, interactive programs designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Lowcountry.

Our educational programs align with many of South Carolina’s Curriculum Standards and are available at the Museum’s Honey Horn campus, off-site locations, in classrooms, and online. Students explore the region’s natural history and cultural heritage in ways that make lasting impressions—often sparking lifelong interest and stewardship of the Lowcountry.

CONSERVATION
IN THE CLASSROOM

Inspiring “Tomorrow” to Care for the Lowcountry: This environmental education experience inspires and challenges students to take action and spread the word. Pick a theme for your class - shorebirds, sea turtles, dolphins, or horseshoe crabs. Each theme includes an introductory activity to be led by the teacher in the classroom, followed by an education program presented by the Coastal Discovery Museum, and a hands-on classroom project for students. Projects are used throughout the community to promote environmental awareness and passion for our natural resources, and some students’ projects will be displayed in our annual exhibition (July/August).
